Lifestyle Series: Health and Fitness

So as you've read in my other I watch YouTube, a lot. Well here's some background that pertains to this post. Back in 2014 I was at the gym doing my workout thing. Well one day on the machine squat rack I put my shoulder in a bad position. That ended up causing a problem with my neck so than I had a vertebrate out of place. Basically I broke my own neck. So after finally going to a chiropractor I had my vertebrate put back in place I stayed out the gym. That was for over a year. So after not being in the gym for over a year I started going to a new one in September. The old gym got flooded and hasn't reopened since. Well I started going back in September but I had learned some things in the year I was away. I learned most of things via YouTube. So I'm going to share with you who I was learning from. And I'll share why I follow these folks and why you should too.

Athlean-X:
I was feeling weak after not being in the gym for so long. I was making good progression with my weight training but with my not being sure if my neck was fine amongst other things I didn't do any physical training activities. Basically I was scared, didn't think I could afford a gym membership and was lazy. One day while looking at something on YouTube I saw a recommendation to a video. I clicked on the video and discovered Jeff Cavaliere. I see this ripped dude with no shirt talking about something, I don't remember which video it was. I watched one video than another and another and so on. I kept watching videos by him but I wasn't subscribing to his channel. I felt that if I did than I was going to be committing myself to try these things I was learning from him. I was watching videos and thinking about the past mistakes that I did in my training program. Well one day I said to myself I need to wake up. See I had run into someone I hadn't seen in over twenty years. I didn't feel like I put my best self on display. I really felt out of shape and out of the me that I believe myself to be. So in September I found a gym near where I live and started going to it. Worrying about my neck and feeling small compared to a ll these people pushing and pulling big weights made me very self-conscious. But Jeff made a video where he said that you don't go to the gym for other people, you go and train for yourself. He's right. Since than I've been consistent with training again. I'm pushing myself again and use the gym as a place to not just train y body but also my mind. I care about how I view myself again. The idea of training for a lifetime is what I think about when I go into the gym now. I do 90 minutes programs now. I don't do 90 day programs, I'm more on the 90 years frame of mind. I'm not saying that Athlean-X gives you the best advice of any one on YouTube. I not saying you should only follow Jeffs advice but he is one of the few honest people you'll find. The numbers don't lie check the subscriber count people can tell that he's the real deal.

C.T. Fletcher Motivation:
Along time ago I heard about powerlifting. I didn't follow up on it but one name that stuck in my mind was C.T.. The reason I even looked into powerlifting was because of Mark Henry the wrestler coming from being an Olympic level powerlifter. Well years later someone I knew mentioned how she watched this guy on YouTube and saw this dude named C.T. Flecther. When I watched the videos she recommended I got what she was saying about him. This was a must watch individual. Since than his channel has grown a lot. C.T. is the definition of the "no bullshit" zone. I watch his channel as a reminder to not expect pity or mercy. No one can push me harder than I can push myself. As you learn about C.T. you see that he is extremely self disciplined. In his case if he's not he will die. He's already died, more than once by the way, but he knows that he can avoid death only so many times. That self discipline is great motivation for me to increase my own self discipline. If you have Netflix you should check out his documentary My Magnificent Obsession. I think it still on YouTube but it's broken up into parts. If you've ever hear of the novel Steppenwolf than C.T. Fletcher will feel like a familiar personality to you.

These videos are funny. Curl! Curl! CURL! CURL! CURL!

Bodybuilding.com:
This is a great source to learn about more than bodybuilding. If you go back to one the first post on this blog you'll see it's about food. I love food. I just didn't understand why and how food played into my physical training. If only I knew this ten years I would be a lot further on my physical training journey than I am know. This channel coupled with the website have me with my training. It's not just a channel for people into bodybuilding. It's not just veiny, jacked dudes saying Bro with every sentence. The need to maintain a good physical training lifestyle is important to me. So learning and seeing what professionals do to keep themselves at a high level helps me get closer to my goals. Than when I get to my goals I'll work on new goals and go beyond those. With this channel I see a community of people dedicated to doing a similar thing for themselves. It's going to take a while but I'm willing to put the work in.

Scott Herman Fitness:
Yeah, his Boston accent is thick. Carbs right Scott? Yeah, Chaabbs so many Chaabbs while watching your Macros. After you get past the accent you'll see that he's got some solid information about being physically fit. Plus he really loves Dragon Ball Z, I mean really loves it. His Common Training Mistakes videos have helped me see that some things that I did were done wrong. You can also check his MuscleStrength.com website and see the stuff he does with his community.

Kali Muscle:
Kali is entertaining as fuck. Don't just expect muscle videos from him. He pronounces Kali as Kha-lee but that's fine. His story like C.T.s is deep. He shows you that you can go beyond whatever situation you come from and do well. You see from that commercial what I mean. I suggest you check out his music also. Its good gym music when your hearing the words, muscle, muscle, muscle, curl, curl, curl, reps, reps, reps. It gets hypnotic but sometimes you need that to get in the zone. Plus his gaming sessions are very entertaining.

Those are what I watch on YouTube. Learning to build your body helps to train your mind. Having the right amount of food. Having the right foods is even more important. Knowing what supplements to use and programs to use is what you learn from all these channels. I'm not telling you to buy anything from these channels. They all have something you can learn, which is why I watch them. You'll notice that non of these channels encourage using illegal steroids. They all encourage natural lifting and training. Take a something from all of them to make you into the best you that you can be. That's the point of these channels for me. I hope at least one of them will be good for you.
