If you have started your resolution to get in better physical shape I'll assume you have joined a gymnasium. Hopefully you manage to use your membership for at least once a week. If you do allow me to share some insight to what I've learned as a gym goer. Let's start with the music. You know from listening to the gyms own music or listening to weights falling, people grunting or talking that your own music helps you focus on your workout. Before that lets go over some things.
Your going to the gym to get yourself in shape or just to get some physical activity in your life. Living just a sedentary lifestyle is not just bad for your health along with a bad diet your longing at a early death. Keeping that in mind you add physical fitness to you life to do something active. I love Call of Duty but I don't want to play it from a hospital bed. I can't play it if I'm dead. Therefore if taking two hours of my day to do some physical activity will help keep me alive that's a small price to pay. Maybe you'll be inspired by some of my choices at the bottom of this post.
When you get there keep in mind a few things.
1) Pack your sneakers, gym clothes, and a small towel into your bag. Bring clean clothes in your bag. Wash your dirty gym clothes and always look for holes or small damage to your clothing.
2) Bring a lock of some kind that you can open and close. I find combination locks work best.
3) When using a bench, a mat, or equipment where your body will be against for your exercise wipe it down first. There should be paper towels and disinfectant/water solutions spry bottles around your gym. Please use it before and preferably after you use the equipment.
4) Keep the noise down. Whether you have big headphones or inner ear headphones the world doesn't need to hear your music. Plus if your going to talk to someone don't scream-talk your conversation. I don't need to know what time you'll be at the club after your workout.

5) Keep your advice to yourself. Yes, there are some big people who clearly have been going to gyms for a long time. That doesn't mean that they are your own personal trainer. When I'm at the gym I see teenagers doing their exercises. A lot of it is wrong but they don't need me to be their trainer. We live in an age where YouTube has many people giving advice on physical fitness. Some of it is great most of it is trash. You've seen that I recommend Athlean-X and Scott Herman Fitness. I do so because they know what their talking about. There are plenty other resources like Bodybuilding.com, Jim Stoppani, C.T. Fletcher, and Muscle & Fitness to check out. If someone needs gym advice they can check with the personal trainers or any of those resources on YouTube. You can help someone if they ask for it but remember you came to the gym for you not them.
6) Ignore the haters. Whether your skinny, fat or whatever point in between ignore the people who give you the side-eye. Your not at the gym for them. This is all about you and your goals. It's your money paying for a membership. If they want their opinion to matter to your routine tell them to pay your monthly fee otherwise mind your business.

7) Have a positive mental attitude. Working out will be painful. This can't be avoided. So keep in mind that, "no pain, no gain" is a real thing. Keeping in mind that you voluntarily put yourself here to make yourself change is your choice. Pain comes with that choice so have a positive mindset that your doing this painful bullshit for a reason. This pain hurts now but there's a worse pain that your trying to avoid. Keep that in mind when your under the bar with a heavy weight about to come down on your chest.
That's all I got for you. Simple things to help you have a positive gym experience. I hope this helps you get in better shape but also a better frame of mind on your journey to that better you. Now for a sampling of what I use to tune out the world and focus on my workouts. And I even found some music videos for them so you can hear them. If you want to add them to you workout playlist I'll add the iTunes and Amazon links at the end. I included sum blurbs as to why i chose that song for some of them. And no, I am not against yoga. I just have not tried it yet. If you want to use these songs i your workout try putting things on shuffle. It makes for an interesting experience. Check out YouTube to hear these songs. Enjoy.
