I did post last week, you probably didn't read my book review. Last week I was watching YouTube primarily videos featuring Professor Jordan Peterson. If you don't know who he is you are not paying attention to whats going on around you. What he's done is point out how left-wing extremism is still in existence in the world. We know about right-wing extremism but left-wing extremism is often ignored. He's put the spotlight back on it in a way that is helping people look at the world differently.
Well I was watching a few videos from his latest lectures. It got me wondering if he was on tour. It turns out he was on tour. And his next stop was New York City at the Beacon Theatre. Well, yes I want to go see that. And of course it was sold out already because why not. While I was disappointed it got me thinking about what Prof. Peterson has managed to do. Contrary to some belief he doesn't come across as a right wing advocate. What he's done and keeps trying to get people to do is think before you act, but be willing to act once you've finished thinking.
There was an interview he did with a woman about himself. It's a thought provoking interview from a few perspectives. One is those who support the interviewer, Prof. Peterson fans and those who just happen to watch the show without a bias towards either party. The message that has caught the interest of primarily men is accepting responsibility. Not only accepting it but going after it. The idea of accepting a higher responsibility than yourself is one that has found a spot in peoples being. Basically, if your a parent be willing to be responsible for that child of all others. That is where you'll fine true purpose, no where else.
Now the merging of responsibility is something people feel when their over 30 years old. What he's saying is don't wait for that age to be responsible. Do it know so that when your past thirty you won't look back on your life and see how much of it you've wasted. When speaking on relationships he points out the differences in how men and women approach the relationship. It's something that I think more men are being drawn too. I encourage you to check out his YouTube channel. I know most of the videos are very long. There's a few channels that break up the big videos into smaller ones watch those instead to have time for yourself. I follow Bite-Sized Philosophy for the record.
Don't be that person who makes the excuses of not understanding what he's saying. Don't let drinking and smoking weed be the only things that motivate your life. I hear too many people talk about one day they'll make a better life for themselves and their children. They just repeat the same broken patterns over and over again thinking that someday things will change. Prof. Peterson has a book out now called 12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos. I think this along with his YouTube videos could be a good start for something truly new in peoples lives. Give the videos a try and see where they lead you. And yes, he sure does find some strange things in Disney movies. Enjoy.
