Cooking Series: Easy to make recipes on a budget - Dinner

We have now come to dinner. Not just any dinner but the cheapest kind of dinner for those who are living hard on a tight budget. Now this one is actually really, really cheap. I'm talking about if you only have $5 and some cookware. I know this but I actually had to make this for a month. This is the kind of meal that you do not want to have to make on a regular basis. But if you must survive until payday. You mom didn't leave you any leftover because you were too busy hanging out with your friends. Well this meal is for you.

Dinner: Ramen Noodles with Canned Diced Chicken

You'll start out with a pot filled with two cups of water. Throw in a pinch of salt and a little butter. The packaging says three it ready in three minutes. You will not be cooking this in three minutes. The heat will be between low and medium heat. This is why it will not be ready in three minutes. You want to cook this for about eight to ten minutes. The packet that it comes with you pour in at the six minute mark and stir. When the time is up you don't drain the fluid. When its done that's it, it is done. The chicken part is a little bit harder.

You'll notice I had a large bottle of Teriyaki sauce. Your gonna need it. The problem I've found with many canned diced chicken is, they taste terrible. Yeah with a sauce of some kind or a mustard these things taste bad. Another problem is that some of these chicken are shredded to the point where there is no chunk to the chicken chunks. The brand you see in the picture is these best one I've found that actually doesn't suck, too much.

So first thing to do after you've opened the can and drain the water out is pour one third of a cup onto the chicken then mix it into the chicken. You may need more teriyaki sauce if you don't get all the chicken chunks but seriously get that sauce into that chicken, You can add some hot sauce to it afterward but first put some taste into that chicken. Next put some butter into your pan then put the chicken into the pan. Give it ten minutes while stirring it in between and your done. That's it. POur the noodles into the bowl and than put the chicken on top. The clean up is easy so put the pot and pan into the sink and go eat dinner. As you do remember that the noodle were less than $50 while the canned chicken was at most $1.50. If you only have $5 this whole meal cost you $2 you saved $3. That money can go to any of the other meals. Enjoy.
