Pro Wrestling: The next big thing in pro wrestling

Back on the old blog I mentioned how podcasting was becoming the new thing that many people were getting into. Well that turned out to be very true. Once Eric Bischoff got into the podcast game I knew that its peaked as a format (No offense meant). The next big thing in the horizon has already started. You, yes you are already seeing it, when you check out YouTube.

So a little while ago Xavier Woods from W.W.E.s the New Day had his YouTube Channel, Up UP Down Down reached over the 1 million subscribers mark. While that is a great feat I think it needs to be put into some perspective. See World Wrestling Entertainment (W.W.E.) on YouTube as of this article has over 15 million subscribers. That is a big deal. I mean a really big deal. Check the subscribers for Major League Baseball (M.L.B.)or the National Basketball Association (N.B.A.) to see why W.W.E.s number shows the reach they have with their digital content. Now back to Xavier Woods because his channel alone is larger than W.W.E.s biggest competitors in New Japan Pro Wrestling (N.J.P.W.), Impact Wrestling and Ring of Honor Wrestling (R.O.H.).

Impact is sitting around the 860,000 mark, R.O.H. is at 147,000 and NJPW is around 137,000. So as far as W.W.E. is concerned Xavier Woods channel is more relevant to the internet audience than they are. Even the Ultimate Fighting Championship (U.F.C.) is affected by how their product is seen online since they are only at 3 million subscribers. Now what does any of this have to do with the rest of the pro wrestling business? It's because YouTube will soon be where most wrestlers and companies show their product(s).

I subscribe to a lot of wrestling related companies over YouTube. I get a lot of my new wrestling information and history from YouTube. I learn things I forgot or never knew about pro wrestling form YouTube. I watch matches I never saw or even heard of from YouTube. So what makes you think someone won't catch onto this and try to put out as much content and information about their product on YouTube for me to see. Oh, wait someone already did. Yeah, that guy.

See here's the thing. When you have a channel on YouTube with enough subscribers you can make money off of it through ad sales. The bigger your channel the more money you make. How do you know your big, subscriber count. So Xavier Woods right now should be making some good side money from his YouTube channel. Vince is clearly making a killing. But Impact, N.J.P.W., and R.O.H. while not making a ton of money are getting a little something. But how about if your the Young Bucks and Kenny Omega?

These guys have a YouTube page that sits at 60,000 subscribers. Not bad when you think about it. But if they can get to 600,000 subscribers they'll make some good money off of posting 10 minute videos. Think about it. You make a ten minute video of you and your buddies just showing what you do when your not in the ring. At the end of your video you advertise where you'll be working in the coming weeks. You get views, you get paid. People come to you next show because of they viewed your channel. That makes you a draw. Being a draw in the pro wrestling business gets you paid. Free advertising for the promoter but really free advertising for you and you get paid.

So in the next few years watch how people flock to get their YouTube page, Facebook, Google plus, Twitter and all that other stuff to work together to get them paid. See how easy that was.

Now here's my other thing. If your a wrestling company who wants to show your product over the internet have you not heard of YouTube Red? Forget Pay-Per-View, forget Internet Pay Per View through some cable company. How about helping YouTube grow it's service, which will help make you a draw for YouTube. See what I did there. Google see's your making them money, they in turn try to help make you money. You see what I'm saying. Anyway here's a bunch of channels that I check on YouTube and hope you'll check them out too. Please subscribe to the channels you like. If you think I'm full of it understand that What Culture from the United Kingdom started out as just a YouTube channel and now will be putting on a show on WrestleMania weekend from Orlando, Florida. These guys get what I'm talking about because their WhatCulture Wrestling page is currently at 1 million subscribers, Yeah, they have more subs than Impact, N.J.P.W. and R.O.H. Think about that and realize they started with no money but are now touring outside of their country. There's seems to be some money at this YouTube table. This Google plus thing is not to bad either. So check these out a give them a like, subscribe or a view. Like with this page every reader and viewer helps.
