Pro Wrestling: World Wrestling Entertainment - NXT TakeOver Brooklyn III

I was not planning on going to any of the WWE shows at Barclays Center this year. After the previous weekend at the Progress Wrestling show I figured I was good for wrestling shows in August. Someone asked me if I was going to any of the WWE shows. They were going to NXT but I replied no, I did not buy a ticket. Then Thursday night a friend of mine asks if I would want to go. I replied that I was good on not going. But then he mentions how he was supposed to go with his brother to the NXT show. His brother had to cancel so he had one extra ticket.

I had a similar situation once where a cousin of mine was having his birthday around the time of a WWE show at Madison Square Garden. So as a birthday present I asked him if he would want to go as my gift to him. He said, yes. So I bought the tickets. The night before the show I called his house to see what time I'd meet him in front of MSG. Well wouldn't you know it the night before the show I find out he's not going. It would have been nice for someone to tell me. Instead I had to call and find out that the money I spent on the tickets was now going to be short one. Of course he didn't call to tell me that I had to find out from his mom. Really respectful of my time and effort they were.

So I call MSG to see what I can do to get my money back. Well there is a no refund policy for the show. So now I'm out $96 unless I find someone to go with me for $48 or I'm going by myself. Instead I ate the $96 and missed the show. Fast forward to today when my friend has a similar problem I ask the only question that matters, how much was the tickets. I'll leave that part out but I thought about how I felt when I was in that similar spot and decided to just go to the show.

I was looking forward to getting a pizza and just chill out watching the show on the WWE Network. I'd never been to the Barclays Center so this would be a first for me. Now another reason I wasn't thinking of going to TakeOver Brooklyn was because I already had plans earlier in the day. I was going to the first video game convention in New York City for a long, long time. Also there was an anime con in New York City for the first time since the New York Comic Con folks did one almost ten years ago. I bought tickets for the video game convention and was thinking of doing a walk in on the anime con. Now that would change and my day was going get a lot longer.

The video game con is in another post.

I get to the Barclays and meet up with my friend. We go in and I find that we have good seats. I mean these are good sight lines, decent leg room, close to the aisle seats. I didn't realize how good the seats really were until I looked to my left and saw that we could see the pre-show set. It was fairly close to where we were seated. Later on we'd see that we were right beneath the box where they filmed a quick spot for the show. I thought about how this show was so different from the Progress show last Saturday. It was funny seeing the wrestlers from British Strong Style on the NXT show when just one week earlier I was watching them now their at a WWE event. I got to see the ReDragon run in. I pointed to the guy next to me that his favorite wrestler Adam Cole was running down the aisle about to do his run in after the main event. Afterwards everyone leaving the building was saying either, "The Elite, Be The Elite", or "Adam Cole BAYBAY". All in all it was a good show but a long day for me. My friend mentioned that he was still going to SummerSlam the next night. I stayed home and watched the 6 hour Sunday Night Raw from my place.

Not going to review the NXT show plenty of people have done that already. The general consensus is the Womens championship match was the best. The other two championship matches weren't as good. But as usual the NXT TakeOver show was better than whatever Pay-Per-View WWE had the next day. I understand now why the NXT TakeOver shows have recently felt rushed. The Barclays was not sold out. It could have been and really should have been. I'm guessing some folks on the main show are not happy with the popularity of the TakeOver shows. There may be some undercutting behind the scenes going on. I might be wrong but I won't be surprised when that becomes a bigger issue later. Other than that NXT was great. I look forward to the next NXT show. Enjoy.
